STANBROOK

The Stanbrook was the British coal ship that carried on the last evacuation of Republican refugees from the Alicante harbour on March 28th 1939, four days before the end of the Spanish Civil War.

Stanbrook Productions was stablished with the same rebel spirit with which Archibald Dickinson, captain of that ship, defied the orders of the ship's owner and rescued thousands of people from a sure death under fascist repression. Our name is an homage to both, the young brave British captain who saved thousands of innocent lives, and to those Spanish republicans who fought so hard against intolerance and fascism. Eighty years later, this fight is still as necessary as then.

A Circle in The Water

(Un Cercle en l'Aigua)
Feature Film (2020)

London, 1593. Christopher Marlowe, the most talented and successful playwright in England is going to be murdered. Only William Shakespeare can save his life, but he won’t do it for nothing.

The Circle in the Water is a historic thriller featuring William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. It’s based on the lifelong theory that insists upon the unlikeliness that someone with barely any formation could write the masterpieces attributed to William Shakespeare. Only someone highly prepared, who’d studied the classics and had solid skills as a playwright could have done it.

That was none other than Christopher Marlowe.

Synopsis

London 1593. Christopher Marlowe is the most famous author in England. His plays are awaited with high expectations and are always a success. It is a time in which Queen Elizabeth I is at war against the Catholics who covet the throne of England.

Marlowe has secretly worked for the Queen since his time as a student at Cambridge. She payed for his studies in languages and classical literature. Marlowe translated Ovid and Virgil. He’s fluent in Latin and Greek, well versed in drama and classical mythology.

However Marlowe is in a very difficult situation. He’s considered a traitor by the Catholics, and is the Queen’s protege. But he’s also seen as a traitor by the Protestants for renouncing to the religious quarrel and warning Catholics of the risks they run. Only the Queen and Walsingham, her Prime Minister know the truth yet they can do nothing to save him.
William Shakespeare is a young actor and a great admirer of Marlowe’s work. He manages to make his way to meet him and begs him to teach him to write like he does. He longs to write plays, he yearns for glory.

Marlowe notices there’s remarkable resemblance between them and makes a deal with Shakespeare:
He will make of him a great playwright if he agrees to be Marlowe, for a while.

All he has to do is what he does best, to act.
